Staying motivated – Part I

Whatever your fitness goals might be, staying motivated is certainly the greatest challenge for many.  As a fitness instructor I saw this firsthand (and so have you if  you’ve been attending any gym in the country the last two months).  In early January gyms usually see a spike in attendance and registration (to the consternation of quiet gym lovers such as myself).  But fear not like-minded gym goer, the attendance is likely to be on the downward spiral soon if not already.  And that’s motivation’s doing.  New Year’s resolutions sound nice when you make them, but how many really follow them?

According to a study conducted by the University of Scranton*, only 8% of those who make them actually follow through with their resolutions.  Just 8%!  Less than 1 out of every 10.  This tells us how important staying motivated can be.

Lucky for you I have some tips to keep you motivated.  Over the next couple of days I’ll share with you some notforjocktips on how to stick to that fitness goal this year.

Notforjocks Motivation Tip #1: Go public!: Don’t keep your goal a secret.  Tell your closest friends and loved ones what your goal is and how you intend to reach it.  Maybe they will even want to join you (more on that later).  Almost everyone has a facebook, twitter, snapchat, etc these days.  I challenge you to post your fitness goals on social media.  And keep posting.  When it’s great, when it’s hard, when it’s dang near impossible.  Friends will cheer you on, and you’ll feel a little more accountable for eating that donut or making excuses not to go to the gym.
